{"id":793,"date":"2021-03-18T16:15:27","date_gmt":"2021-03-18T15:15:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wwwmaory.oabo.inaf.it\/?page_id=793"},"modified":"2022-09-09T13:25:34","modified_gmt":"2022-09-09T11:25:34","slug":"science-drivers-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/wwwmorfeo.oabo.inaf.it\/index.php\/science-drivers-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Science Drivers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Coupled with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/elt.eso.org\/instrument\/MICADO\/\">MICADO<\/a>,\u00a0 MORFEO will enable ELT to perform diffraction limited \u00a0near infrared observations.\u00a0 In imaging\u00a0 mode\u00a0 MAORY+MICADO will provide an option with a wide FoV (50.5 x 50.5 arcsec2) at pixel scale of 4 mas and a high resolution option with 1.5 mas pixel scale over 19\u00d719 arcsec2.\u00a0 This will allow a major step forward, with a significant increase in spatial resolution with respect to <a href=\"https:\/\/hubblesite.org\/\">HST<\/a>\u00a0and even\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jwst.nasa.gov\/\">JWST<\/a>\u00a0(pixel scale ~ 30mas\/pix).\u00a0\u00a0 Long slit spectroscopy will be covered with two settings: a short slit 0.84-1.48 \u03bcm, and a long slit from 1.48-2.46\u00a0 \u03bcm.<\/p>\n<p>The science cases for the MORFEO\/MAORY+MICADO have been widely explored by the MAORY science team.\u00a0\u00a0 A preliminary collection of the cases studied is reported in the MORFEO\/<a href=\"http:\/\/wwwmaory.oabo.inaf.it\/owncloud\/index.php\/s\/EvtuKmm56bnrkn3\">MAORY science cases white book<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The collected science cases address many of the major questions of astrophysics :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Planetary systems including cases in our own Solar Systems , exoplanet and formation of planetary system<\/li>\n<li>Nearby stellar systems with stars and stellar systems within\u00a0 our own Galaxy and its satellite<\/li>\n<li>Local Universe with science cases aimed to study the stellar content and the structure of distant stellar systems that can be at least partially resolved\u00a0 into individual stars.
